Out Of My System

Been involved in dance music since 1989, when I first heard Lil Louis - French Kiss, and clearly remember thinking, "What the hell is that?". That epiphany led me to the infamous Quadrant Park nightclub in Liverpool, where a 1000 sweaty people were going mental to Hardcore Uproar. As my first real clubbing experience, that was quite a shock to the system, and I'd spend most of my time there studying the DJ, trying to figure out what the hell he was doing. (That sounds sad now, but this was 15 years ago!). I was DJing locally for a while, but then did a residency in Corfu for a years, coming back in the winters for the Courtyard at Cream with Paul Oakenfold. I stopped DJ'ing for a living to pursue another career, but never stopped loving the music.

Since Ableton Live has appeared, I'm fully back into the DJ'ing side of things, which is going hand-in-hand with the production work. There's a fair amount of negativity from some people regarding DJing with Ableton, which is fair enough, but the scope for creativity and expression is astounding, and will achieve far more than a guy and 2 turntables ever could do. In 5 years time, the idea of mixing one record after another on a pair of decks will appear quaint. I guarantee it. :-)

Well it's about time I did another mix seeing as it's been almost 12 months! This set was put together as part of the monthly Feel Ableton sets on Frisky Radio, hosted by Shamanah, in conjunction with the ALDJ community at http://www.abletonlivedj.com

Had a great time putting this one together, and I threw in a couple of classics for the hell of it. The opener's actually from 1990! I usually run out of time when doing a mix and end up putting a track in that I'm not 100% sure about, but not with this one. There's a couple I've had on my hard drive for a couple of months that I had to get out on to a mix at some point, right up to the Philosophia track that I've had for 2 weeks, but has playing on a constant loop in my head since I laid hands on it.

It's a bit of a relentless mix from start to finish. Hope you like it, and thanks for listening.
