Ben Clarke
Musical style: Rolling tech house, techno and breakbeat.
Influences: Layo and Bushwacka, SOS, Sasha, John Digweed, Mr C, Danny Howells, Giles Peterson.
Ben along with his partner in crime Francis Mallinson have over 10 years of experience between them and with an infectious enthusiasm for new music, are earning a well-deserved reputation for delivering energetic, exciting DJ sets spanning tech house, techno and breakbeat.
As former Twisted Melon residents, Ben and Francis played for the London club night from February 2004 at a variety of venues including The Cross and Ministry of Sound. Recently they played two dates in Romania for Only Records , visited Zurich with Twisted Melon and over the summer had gigs in Ibiza. They now run London social club Chez Nous (www.clubcheznous.com) and are residents for Switch in Bristol.
Adept at playing a variety of different sets, their sound ranges from breaks, tough house and techno featuring artists such as Tiefschwarz, Slam, John Dahlback and the End Recordings label through to more minimal, trippy cuts including Mathew Jonson and DJ T. Equally at home playing harder sets to a main room crowd as they are working an alternative sound in the backroom, their Twisted Melon sets have been noted for their up for it house party vibe.
Meeting in 1999 whilst playing for Synchronised (a North London based event that ran until 2001), the pair formed a close friendship. Since then they have guested at venues across London including Fortress Studios and N2O in Soho . Francis has also appeared at Bed and the Republic nightclubs in Sheffield , whilst Ben promoted a series of parties at Bristol 's Baroque throughout 2003.
The duo are keen to push music technology boundaries, primarily working with CD decks alongside effects units and Ableton Live to re-edit records in the mix and bring a new element to their sound.
In the summer of 2006 Ben started a weekly radio show with friend and DJ Steve Marx. The Loop Music Mix show aims to showcase the very best music from the London club scence and beyond. With regular guest mixes alongside sets from Ben and Steve (as Loop Music) the show's audience grew rapidly and they looking to expand the show further in 2008.
